Review - Merit Beauty Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick
I ordered Slip (warm neutral) and Cabo (soft orange red) during last month’s Sephora spring sale! Each lipstick retails for $26. Here are my thoughts on the lipstick formula in general, as well as the two colors.
The Lipstick
The product description is “a sheer lipstick with a satin finish and the benefits of a lip balm—without the heaviness of a traditional lipstick.” It also says “one swipe for a sheer finish and three swipes for rich color.”
I would say that’s accurate! This lipstick is so soft and smooth, not at all heavy. It goes on sheer, but the color is buildable. The packaging is beautiful but heavy.
Slip
I have a lot of lipsticks that are similar in color, but this one is amazing. On me, it’s a perfect “my lips but better” color. A different color (Baby) is described as more of what that looks like, but I’m very cool-toned so I pulled this warm neutral into a neutral neutral.
I like to wear it layered over a balm as a primer, which diffuses the color a bit. On its own, it’s a bit more brown.

Cabo
Cabo is a lovely orange-red that starts off very sheer, especially when layered over a balm like I do. With some gentle blotting and reapplication, the color builds nicely! I was looking for an orange-red that was a bit more - subtle? soft? - compared to the bright lip I frequently do. I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of it in the cooler months especially.

The Verdict
I like both of these lipsticks a lot! It was nice to be able to pick them up during the Sephora Sale. The colors are similar to lipsticks I already have, but they’re different enough that they’re worth keeping. The formula is really nice, comfortable, and easy to reapply. If any of the colors appeal to you, I recommend checking them out, though there are many gorgeous options out there at a lower price point.
