Review: Sheertex Tights

I have been talking about investing in nice new tights for two years. In November, I finally bit the bullet and ordered four styles from Sheertex. You may have some questions! Like, why now, and why Sheertex?

In the fall of 2021, I was totally frustrated by the tights that I had, so it was time to try something. I compared recent reviews of Sheertex, Heist, and Snag. The recent reviews from Heist were positive about the fit and comfort, but many of them said that new pairs snagged a lot more. I didn’t want that! So Heist was out. When I looked at Snag, I think they didn’t have quite the color options I was looking for (more brights and patterns, when I wanted a sheer and an opaque black). I might try their colored tights in the future. Sheertex had better reviews, and was having a 50% off Black Friday sale. They were still expensive, but 50% off is nothing to sneeze at, so I took the plunge.

Their size chart is divided by weight. I fluctuate somewhere between the XS and S, so I ordered all size S because I would rather my tights feel a little forgiving rather than like sausage casing, and I didn’t want to order two sizes because they do not accept returns (the exception being if there is an actual defect in the tights). Overall, I chose the correct size for me. Style-wise, I purchased:

Nude Sheer Tights, $99

  • Very soft and comfortable. The waistband is really wide, stretchy, and doesn’t feel too tight on my stomach.

  • The waistband doesn’t lay totally flat (the puckering is visible in the picture), which only presents a problem wearing them under something very tight that would show it. Hasn’t presented an issue for me yet.

  • N02 is the palest shade and looked online like it would match my legs, but it is not pale enough. It’s not jarring or super obvious, but I would prefer tights that are truly sheer or match my legs. Not a big problem, but something to note.

  • There’s a little bit of extra fabric on the ankle when my feet are flat, but not significantly noticeable or uncomfortable.

Classic Sheer Tights, $69

  • Like the nude sheer, very soft and comfortable. Same great waistband.

  • Similar waistband issues, with maybe slightly less puckering for some reason.

  • A few snags in one pair from cat claws, which mostly massaged out, but are still visible - didn’t tear though! So even though these tights are unbreakable, be somewhat careful in order to maintain them.

Classic Semi-Opaque Tights, $89

  • These are noticeably thicker, stiffer, and not as soft because the weave is heavier. Still comfortable with the comfortable waistband.

  • Definitely more fabric gathering at the ankle. It’s not uncomfortable, but would be slightly noticeable.

  • Though called semi-opaque, I would say these are a great solid black tight.

Fine Rib Classic Semi-Sheer Tights, $89

  • I haven’t worn these out yet, but they are comfortable. I like the subtle rib. They appear to be basically the same as the other black tights, somewhere in between sheer and semi-opaque.

  • I got these as a free gift with my order, and wouldn’t have ordered them otherwise, though I don’t mind having them.

A few other things to note…

Sheertex tights are very nice, very comfortable, and very expensive. As I mentioned, I was able to get my order at 50% off for Black Friday, got an extra 10% off by buying 2-packs, and scored a free pair of tights. Even so, it was still an expensive purchase that I hesitated about, so it is difficult for me to confidently recommend buying them.

After my purchase, Sheertex lowered some of their prices and even added a new style of sheer tights at $58 for a 2-pack, so $29/pair. I haven’t tried those and cannot speak to their quality or any differences between this style and others. And $29 for one pair of tights is still a lot! But it’s significantly more affordable than $99.

That being said… I love these tights. I used to wear tights all the time, and stopped because they stopped being comfortable. Old tights were too tight on my toes, squeezed my stomach too much, snagged easily, fell down constantly, and were just more trouble than they were worth. Sheertex tights brought me back into being able to wear tights comfortably again, and that’s why I’ve been wearing skirts and dresses this winter. I’d even wear them under trousers as an extra layer of warmth if I had to!

If you love wearing tights and need comfortable ones, yes, these can be worth it. It’s as an investment in your closet, for sure, and only worth it if you wear them enough.
