Neutral Capsule Wardrobe

Capsule wardrobes are designed around a limited number of pieces to be mixed and matched into a wide variety of outfits.

It may sound counterintuitive that limiting the contents of your closet can lead to more outfit combinations. The key is to have a planned color scheme so that the clothes basically all go together.

About my example capsule:

  1. Contents: 30 pieces

    1. 10 tops

    2. 7 bottoms

    3. 2 dresses

    4. 4 jackets

    5. 6 shoes

  2. Colors: neutrals

    1. Black

    2. White

    3. Grey

    4. Camel/bronze

  3. Not in the capsule but in the outfits:

    1. Scarves

    2. Belts

A capsule in neutral colors is a good way to really start figuring out your style. When you nail your basics, it’s easier to see what silhouettes you prefer, where pops of color and print can fit in, and where to invest your money, time, and closet space. And your neutrals don’t have to be these colors - it’s whatever basics work for you.

Also, these 18 looks are far from all of the possible combinations with the pieces I pulled. Some items I didn’t end up styling at all!

Curating a personal capsule wardrobe is one of the possibilities of the wardrobe therapy experience. If the idea appeals to you but you’re not sure how to do it yourself, give me a shout!
