Style Challenge: Red, White & Blue

It’s almost July 4th Weekend, so here’s some style inspiration for wearing patriotic colors. Some of the looks are somewhat subtle, but most, I would say, are not. I don’t usually go for subtlety in my style!

If you’re feeling stuck, here are some key pieces to call on:

  • Denim shorts and/or jackets in white and/or blue: a great foundation for any look, but particularly Americana style.

  • White tees and tops of all kinds: easy, classic, likely to be in your closet.

  • Chambray shirts: the jean shorts of shirts.

  • Stars and stripes: even if it’s not in RW&B, they’re fun and appropriate.

  • Red lipstick: add to something simple to finish it off.

Some fun details about these outfits:

  • The polka dot blouse (in picture 2) is from my brother circa 2006.

  • The white tee (in picture 5) has the Declaration of Independence on it.

  • The floral shirt (in pictures 8 and 9) is from my husband’s closet. I might not give it back.

  • The striped belt slash headband is the belt from the striped dress.

Celebrate safely and as you want to, whether that’s with a picnic and fireworks, or protesting for equality and justice. Remember that the right to protest is one of the freedoms that we celebrate, and that we can be even better than we have been!
