Q: How Do I Take My Look From Day To Night?

A client asked me this recently, and here’s what I suggested.

If you’ve returned or started to go to work, you might also be making plans after work. Or such transitions may be in your future. I’m not here to tell you what decisions to make or what to do with your life, but I am here to give you some ideas for how you might take your daytime look to your nighttime activity.

These ideas are slightly more appropriate for warmer weather dressing. There might be an updated installment once the weather chills out!

If you’re wearing a suit:

  • Try trading your shirt for a bralette, or a graphic tee.

  • Switch to shorts with your blazer.

If you’re wearing pants (by which I mean trousers):

  • Top them with a crop - top, sweater, jacket.

  • A cool jacket will elevate the style factor.

If you’re wearing a skirt:

  • Try a cute cami.

  • Knot/tuck a graphic tee or an easy tank.

If you’re wearing a fancy blouse:

  • Dress it down with jeans.

  • Make it flirty with a floaty skirt.

If you’re wearing a button-down shirt:

  • Roll your sleeves and tie it up to tone down the look.

  • Wear it like a shacket over something more casual.

If you’re wearing a dressy dress:

  • Add sneakers!

  • Try a denim jacket.

If you want to change your whole outfit:

  • A tee or tank dress is easy; accessorize with your scarf or a fun necklace from your work look!

  • Think fabrics that pack well.

If you don’t want to change your look at all:

  • Who says work looks can’t be cool?

  • There’s nothing wrong with being dressed up!

What do you wear after work?
