Review: 4 New Mascaras

In trying to find a replacement for my favorite mascara (Benefit’s BadGal, which has been discontinued), I’ve been trying out four new-to-me mascaras! Read on for my thoughts on trying out these mascaras for the past several weeks.

For each mascara, I tried it on its own (left eye, your right) and layered over the YSL Cils Booster (right eye, your left). However, I didn’t do any combing or tidying up of flakes, so what you see is just what happened.

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara

“An all-in-one mascara that delivers a look of endless length, intense volume, and sky-high lift for extreme, dramatic lashes.”

I do not like this mascara. I tried it out of desperation because my favorite mascara ran out. It was okay, I didn’t completely hate it, but I never really liked it. Too wet, not volumizing in the right way, somewhat clumpy. Would not buy again.

Milk Makeup KUSH High Volumizing Mascara

“A mega-volume vegan mascara for super-thick, full, and badass lashes from root to tip.”

I hate this mascara. Very clumpy and gloopy, so requires combing, but it still looked bad even when I did. When I tried it over the primer, I hated it so much that I removed it a few minutes later. Uncomfortable, felt heavy, just no.

Sephora Collection Big By Definition Defining & Volumizing Mascara

“A long-wearing mascara that provides fuller-looking, well-defined lashes while supporting your lash health.”

This was my favorite at first. It looks good and was easy to apply. Sometimes it needs a lot of combing and clumps a lot (like the day I took these photos) and sometimes not. It can be a flakey, and often rubs off on my upper lid.

Sephora Collection Lashcraft Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara

“A jet-black mascara with unique, two-sided flat paddle and that lengthens, defines, and volumizes lashes to the max.”

This one is easy to apply, doesn’t need much combing, not flakey. However, it’s very light and not as impactful as I’d like. The unusual brush is cool, though I don’t really utilize. If I had to pick out of these four, this would be my favorite.

In a funny turn of events, I found two more tubes of my favorite mascara, so I still have that for a little while before I have to fully replace it!

What’s your favorite mascara?

My face after getting the photos for the first two mascaras and completely hating them.
