Gift Guide, Part Three

This, the final installment of the 2020 holiday gift guide, is all about last-minute gifts. No matter how early I start making my list and doing my shopping, there’s always something to do in the last week before the holidays hit. These can be fulfilled online, ordered quickly, or picked up (in person or curbside, if that’s available near you).

No pictures and few links this week, as these are mostly ideas rather than specific options.

Subscriptions

  • Streaming service (like Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Acorn): It can be difficult to justify having a bunch of streaming services, so it’s a fun gift!

    • One could combine this with my previous suggestion of dinner and a movie. Just add snacks and dinner!

  • The Book HookUp, from the Strand Bookstore: The Strand offers monthly boxes of books in different categories. It looks like they’re currently working on their March boxes, so it would be a delayed gift, but something to keep in mind for sure! Check out their website and FAQ for more information.

  • Fab Fit Fun: It’s like giving fancy gifts without having to decide yourself! You can give a custom amount to cover a different number of boxes or add-ons or whatever else there is.

  • Grady’s Cold Brew: For the coffee lover in your life!

Gift in a Gift

Get a container of some kind (like a mug, basket, or other little storage container) and fill it with little gifts! You could follow a theme, or just get a couple or a bunch of things the recipient can enjoy. The idea is stocking stuffers, but in something more useful than a stocking, and something that can be easily and safely dropped off. Some filler ideas:

  • Makeup, lipstick, nail polish, face masks

  • Accessories like a scarf, jewelry, or cozy socks

  • Ornaments or decorations, seasonal or otherwise

  • Snacks, candy, or baked goods - like hot chocolate and s’mores ingredients

Other Ideas

  • Shop local boutiques! They’ll have picks, and your dollar will do more for your community.

  • Some local places may offer delivery or pickup that wouldn’t otherwise. Stay safe while you patronize!

  • Gift cards for local shops, restaurants, services: this helps your local businesses in this difficult season, and encourages your friends and family to support them as well.

  • Baked goods: order and drop off some delicious local baked goods! My personal favorite is Fortunata’s in Milford (I recommend the sticky buns, rolls, raisin bread, and [my personal favorite] chocolate chip cookies).
