Intro to Spring 2020

It is almost officially spring, and the weather in Delaware is reflecting that! Retailers have been getting ready for warm weather. Here’s a few things I’ve noticed, what I’m looking at, and what I’m still searching for.

Disclaimer:

Trends shouldn’t be about buying what other people say is cool and totally changing your wardrobe every 3-6 months to suit that.

Following trends should be about:

  • Noticing what’s most readily available (colors, prints, silhouettes, etc)

  • Figuring out which suit you best

  • What you want to invest in (what you will wear season after season)

  • And what you might want to try.

Make them work for you.

What I’ve Noticed

  • Terrazzo print:

    • I like it because

      • It can look textured (as it was originally a tile design)

      • It comes in many color options (mostly neutral)

      • It can be in clothes, accessories, or homeware

      • It can be mixed with other prints (see the Apple cases below; it reminds me of mixing stripes with florals)

    • It has popped up

      • At target (like in the blouses I bought)

      • On phone cases (at Anthro/casetify, and Apple)

      • As backgrounds on Instagram and YouTube (Sierra Schultzzie)

      • Mentioned on a podcast (the A Beautiful Mess Podcast episode #19, I believe)

  • Neons

    • Not a new trend, but one that comes around in spring/summer

    • Especially yellow, orange, and a dark but bright blue (neon cobalt)

    • I’ve noticed this a lot at J. Crew, Banana Republic, and Target

  • Colors

    • Blue/green: turquoise, teal, sea foam

    • Pink/orange: coral, clay

    • Yellow: strong sunshine, marigold

    • Featured at Old Navy, Keds

I’m searching for:

  • Square blouse:

    • A cropped and boxy silhouette - basically a square with or without sleeves

    • Could knot, tuck, belt, or leave loose (mostly with high-waist bottoms)

    • White or black

    • No leads so far as most of what I’ve seen has been too long or too narrow

  • White jeans:

    • An absolute classic that I love, yet have a complete void in my drawers

    • I prefer white, not off-white, skinny, stretchy, no distressing

    • It’s so hard to know without trying them, so I might do a comparison post in the future (or possibly on instagram/facebook!)

  • White trench:

    • I love trench coats in spring, summer and fall, yet I somehow don’t have a white one

      • Not a priority on my list, but there is this one at Anthro right now that I am drawn to

  • White sneaks:

    • A classic, but especially hot item recently

      • These Keds have been haunting my dream-closet,

      • as have these for a more casual, slippable, washable option

  • Pumps:

    • Definitely black, possibly nude or white, maybe even yellow

    • I want a pointy toe, and a heel ideally under 3”

      • I’m still looking at these (black, Sonoran beige, white, red!) and these from Banana Republic

      • and these from Sam Edelman

  • Black booties

    • Flat or low (1-2”) heel

    • Pointy toe

    • Leather or suede

    • Shaft over the ankle

      • These are the main contenders right now (and the cloud suede looks nice too)

  • Silver shoes

    • I’m not sure exactly why I’ve wanted to wear silver shoes, but they’ve been on my mental list for a while

    • I like a pointy toe, prefer an ankle strap, and would like flat or low heel

      • I’m looking at these and these right now (which look good in black as well)
