Outfits of the Week: July 27-August 1

Monday July 27

  • Red cami - J. Crew

  • Bird maxi skirt - Farm Rio

  • Yellow flats - Rothy’s

Hot weather (continued) means light and easy pieces. This skirt is so lovely and so comfortable. Usually I’d add a jacket for sun protection, but it was just too hot.

Tuesday July 28

  • Leaf maxi dress - Target

  • Loop belt - Madewell

  • Red sandals - J. Crew

As I was getting dressed on Monday, I thought to myself, “on a hot day like today, what I really want to wear is a long, colorful dress that’s light and easy to wear.” Then I went to target, saw this dress and thought, “wow that’s exactly what I meant.” And now I’m wearing it! I might do an extended post about it that’s a review and style session, or possibly feature it on Instagram/Facebook stories?

Wednesday July 29

  • Puffy blouse - H&M

  • Pleated skirt - H&M

  • Gold floral sneaks - Keds

Yes, this is a third pleated skirt, this time in dark beige, which I think of as more of a bronze. Anyway! I like it with this because the lines of the pleats mimic the leaf print on the blouse. The shoes are neutral but the prints work nicely together, especially because the colors are similar. I featured this in my Instagram and Facebook stories with a few different accessories to switch it up a bit.

Thursday July 30

  • Stripe/floral shirt - Target

  • Scallop shorts - Madewell

  • White sneaks - Keds

I used to wear this shirt a lot but hadn’t for a while, so I brought it out again! It’s from Peter Pilotto’s collaboration with Target. I love the colors and it works well with mid/low rise pants too. The shorts were one of my first purchases from Madewell. They didn’t work out quite as well as I wanted because of the waistband, but they’re still very cute. White shoes with neon socks balance out the color from the top of the outfit.

Friday July 31

  • Green cami - J. Crew (via a friend!)

  • Pink jeans - Old Navy

  • Floral rain slicker - Target

  • Gold floral sneaks - Keds

Rainy days call for rain slickers in fun colors! I always get a lot of comments on this one because it’s so fun, and then I get to say “thanks - Target girls’ department!” Jackets, skirts, and some oversized tops from the kids’ department sometimes work for me, though I try not to shop there too frequently as I am a 30-year-old woman. The pink jeans and green top (a hand-me-over from a friend; thanks, Cody!) tone perfectly, and the gold sneaks are comfortable, decent in the rain, and work well with the floral.

Saturday August 1

  • Leaf maxi dress - Target

  • Khaki shirt - Madewell

  • Black sandals - Franco Sarto

  • Black belt - Old Navy

If you’d asked me, I would’ve told you I wore this dress last week, not Tuesday. But hey, time is a construct, and who cares! I wore this dress out of the house today and wanted to shield my shoulders from the sun, so I added this shirt! The shirt is light and breezy, so I get the sun protection without being too hot. With the belt, it’s like it’s slightly peplumed, which is cute. Black shoes reference the belt. I can think of a few other ways to style this dress, so I think I might do a feature on Instagram about it!
