Friday Finds: Pleated Skirts

I’m trying something a little different this week! Instead of browsing the offerings of one brand or store, I’m doing a roundup of one category. This week, I’m featuring one of my favorites - pleated skirts!

Pleated skirts are available in so many styles, and are so versatile in styling capabilities. They can be appropriate for the office with a nice blouse, dressed up for an occasion with a fancier top, or worn casually with a sweater or tee. They transition to all seasons as they look good with bare legs and sandals, or tights and boots. In a print, they’re a statement, but in a solid, they’re a great foundational piece.

Skirts like this are easy to fit because you only have to worry about the waist measurement, and then the pleats allow the skirt to have a lovely flow and movement around your legs, which shows them off while still allowing for comfort.

  • Pleated Skirt, H&M ($39.99) - I am 99% sure this is the same style as the silver/taupe pleated skirt I have and adore. The elastic waistband is thick enough that it looks good without a belt. It comes in a variety of colors and you know what they say: if it fits, buy one in every color. It seems like H&M switches up the colors seasonally, so it’s worth keeping an eye on. I am particularly interested in the light beige, dark beige, and pink (which is on sale!).

  • Pleated Skirt, H&M ($39.99) - And in a print! This may have the same listing/base url, but it’s ever so slightly different. At the very least, the waist band is wrapped in the printed fabric, as opposed to being just elastic. Not sure if anything else is different. The color selection here is quite lovely. I can see this with a bright cashmere sweater and neutral booties, or a cream cami and olive/green jacket with bright sandals.

  • Pleated Midi Skirt, Halogen via Nordstrom ($31.60 sale right now!) - This skirt comes in five color/print options. Animal print is a fun option for a pleated skirt because it’s basically a neutral. The bright floral is also fun. I can see it with a white tee, yellow jacket and red lip, or a red sweater and white booties, and many more options beyond that. Hm, now I’m tempting myself with it.

  • Metallic Pleated Midi Skirt, Topshop via Nordstrom ($85.00) - Single color, but definitely a statement! This kind of skirt is fun for occasions and parties, especially around the holidays. Dress it down with a chunky sweater in a neutral. I also like the way they’ve shown it with a vintage/band tee.

  • Snake Print Pleated Midi Skirt, Banana Republic ($119.00 +40% off right now!) - I featured this skirt months ago on a Banana Republic roundup, and I still like it a lot. It has a limited color scheme, but is still somehow vibrant. I can really see this with shades of camel, clay, blush, tans, and possibly even the right tone of olive green.

  • Talitha Pleated Midi Skirt, Daniel Rainn via Anthropologie ($98.00) - I prefer this in the black motif, as opposed to the red motif. The black motif is kind of like an abstract mix of animal print, camouflage, and houndstooth. I don’t love that the red motif has such an obviously contrasting waistband, though I suppose it would be more obvious waist definition, which is never a bad thing.

  • Theodora Pleated Midi Skirt, Daniel Rainn via Anthropologie ($98.00) - This is slightly different from the others, as the pleats are a bit more subtle and it has the contrasting buttons down the front. The colors are nice, and it has a vintage vibe to it. With my penchant for orange and pink, this would be a fun piece in my closet. It would definitely transition to fall very well. I see it with tonal sweaters and sandals or booties.

  • Uma Pleated Abstract Midi Skirt, Geisha Designs via Anthropologie ($178.00) - I mean, wow. Now this is what I call a statement skirt. It would be great with neutrals (tops in white, cream, blush, tan, black) or tonal neons. Year round, with tights or sandals. Yes please.

For practical inspiration, here are a few examples from my archive of outfits featuring pleated skirts.
