Friday Feature: Rothy's

So what’s the big deal with Rothy’s?

Rothy’s makes all of their products (shoes, bags, and some other accessories) out of recycled plastic.

One of the selling points, for the shoes especially, is that they are washable! Mine have always washed very well (which is great because I wear them sans socks). But do not put them in the dryer or they’ll shrink.

(Pictured are each outfit I’ve worn with my Rothy’s since February, sorted by color.)

Are they worth the price?

Not gonna lie, the price is probably the worst part of loving these shoes! Whether Rothy’s are worth it depends on your budget and how often you’d wear them.

I wear all three of mine very frequently, which makes a big difference on the cost-per-wear. The points are, in my humble opinion, stylish enough to be dressy and comfortable enough to be worn casually as well, which makes them more wearable.

Are they comfortable?

I find them very comfortable! One pair rubbed a little at first, though a swipe of some blister block took care of that, and it’s no longer a problem.

Also, I can only talk about points since that’s the only style I’ve tried, though I have read good things about all Rothy’s in terms of comfort.

I wear them because I think they look good, but also because they feel good. It’s also possible to switch out or layer the insoles if you need a little more support.

Dickens, my cat, also finds them very comfortable.

How do the sizes run?

The sizing is odd, and varies by the style and sometimes by color. It can definitely be frustrating. I am usually a 7.5 and wear an 8 in the points. My mom also wears a 7.5, but prefers her points in an 8.5.

I suggest looking at Rothy’s reviews (and/or Rothy’s facebook groups!) to see what size others end up with and recommend.

If you end up in between sizes, insoles can be layered to make a size up fit better.

Rothy’s also has free shipping and a good return policy, which makes it easier to compare sizes (and try different styles).

Which do you have? Which do you want?

I have the Point in three colors: black, marigold (a warm yellow), and flax birdseye (a light neutral that’s a mix of grey and white). If you’ve checked out almost any of my Outfit of the Week posts, you’ve seen them on my feet.

At the moment, I have my eye on the point in ecru, fawn, berry, mint, and copper (which is retired!). I like the look of some of the other styles, but none of the style and color combinations currently available really grab my attention. I have also thought about getting some of their kids’ sneakers for my son because he loves fun shoes.

Is there anything else to know about them?

They release new colors pretty regularly, and also retire colors. There are websites for finding all of the colors that have been made.

People also resell their shoes! Sometimes there’s a discount depending on the condition, or a markup because a color is no longer available. For those deals, check facebook groups or websites like Poshmark or eBay.

Every time I say I’m wearing Rothy’s flats with an outfit, it makes me giggle because I don’t wear Rothy’s flats. Rothy’s calls that style the Point!

If you haven’t tried them before and would like to save $20 on your first order (which gives me $20 off of a future order), please consider using my code!
