Spring 2022 Intro

Spring is springing, and I am so here for it! Warm weather is a fantastic reward for making it through winter, and with that comes new trends and outfit opportunities.

Trends

light blue

Solid, striped and in prints, a classic light blue has been popping up everywhere. It’s a good color to transition to spring because it works in winter, but is just darker than pastel so, so it still feels fresh.

I especially enjoy a light blue shirt, and a striped blue and white shirt is a classic. They also work really well in summer, so can be a three season piece if it appeals to you.

bold colors

Always a trend for me, but it’s not just me! This trend is written up from fashion week shows, and is visible in retail offerings (like I saw a Banana Republic ad the other day featuring a cobalt trench - stunning and statement!).

Solid pieces in bright and bold colors work well together for some color-blocking action, or as a statement with an otherwise neutral outfit. I love to mix them using a print (in an accessory or article of clothing) to bring it all together.

elevated basics

Classics you love in the best versions of themselves, little details that make them stand out but not too much, with great tailoring for the fit you want.

This, to me, feels like a reflection of the pandemic. People are focusing more on what they’re spending money on, what they’re wearing, what they’re living in, and they want it to be good. No one wants a shirt that fits almost right so it bugs you all day, or that does nothing for you. You can pick your favorite kind of detail (maybe you like crisp lines or a frayed hem, the right amount of tight or just skimming your skin - the options are almost endless) and incorporate that into your staple pieces.

statement accessories

Bags, scarves, jewelry, sunglasses for that pop of interest/color/sparkle. Wear anything, like your elevated basics, and then have a super statement piece.

Between kinds of accessories and statements, there are so many categories to choose from that you can really make this work for you. It doesn’t matter if the pieces don’t “go” perfectly with the outfit because the point is that it stands out from everything else.

cardigans

Everywhere. As tops, as layers, chunky, cropped, simple, statement. Whatever you want, there’s a cardigan for that.

I used to not like cardigans at all, but I’ve seem some styled really well, and tried a few great ones. There are a lot of great options available so you can find what works for you.

green and purple

All colors are available all the time, but I have seen so much green and purple. Maybe it’s because I’ve also been looking for green and purple? Am I noticing it more because I’m looking for it, or am I subconsciously influenced by what’s available? Probably both.

2000s trends continue

Pastel colors, graphic prints and references, low rise, mini skirts/dresses. If you remember something from that era, you can probably find it reimagined. I have to say, growing up in this time makes it difficult for me to say “let’s do it again!” But never say never.

Check resale (poshmark, depop, local thrift and vintage) for vintage 2000s brands and pieces for authentic 2000s style! I am sure there are some real finds there, both in terms of bargains and unusual pieces.

My Shopping List

  1. White jeans: Will I ever find a pair?

  2. Blue denim jacket: I’ve been browsing Poshmark for Pilcro styles. I’d like a medium wash that would go with my favorite jeans, but maybe I should try something lighter. My priority is that the fabric is comfortable and the fit is good, but color is important too.

  3. Black booties: Nothing is quite right yet. I got a pair of boots from Target in the fall that weren’t at all what I was looking for, but have been great, so that’ll hold me over for now.

  4. Silver shoes: I found and love my silver sneakers, and would love a silver sandal to add into the rotation. There are a few that I’m considering!

  5. Green sweater: There are other sweater colors I have on my radar, but green is what I’m really looking for.

  6. Orange shoes: There were three occasions recently where I thought, I would really like orange shoes to go with this outfit. I’m thinking of trying a pair of Rothy’s points because I love the style and might be able to score a secondhand deal, but I would wear a bootie also.

  7. Sandals: My four most-worn pairs of sandals all bit the dust this past season, so I need to replace them. Is this a funny purchase for spring? Maybe, but I start wearing sandals as soon as it’s not freezing outside, so they are a three season piece for me! I found some sandals at Target that I like, but I need a few more.

  8. Pants: In colors! I really want a blue pair, would love a brighter green option, and maybe an orange or pink. It’s a trend and I like it, so I might as well look now while the getting is good!

  9. A boiler suit: I’ve been intrigued by boiler-style jumpsuits for years, and I think it would be fun to get one. The question is do I get a neutral color, or a bold one? Maybe a print? I don’t know!
