My High/Low Maintenance Hair

I will admit it loudly and unashamedly: I am beyond lazy when it comes to my hair.

Yet, because I am somehow even more contrary than I am lazy, I have bangs, which is definitely a high maintenance haircut. Indeed, I get my hair cut every four weeks to trim my bangs (and the rest of my hair as necesssary). To enjoy my bangs for four full weeks, I get them trimmed a bit short so they have room to grow in perfectly, and then grow a little long before the next appointment. I see Aundrea, the genius of Shear Genius (and have been for almost 15 years - wow!).

Even though my hair is high maintenance in that way, the rest of my routine is much more low maintenance.

I always go for a cut that is wash and wear. I prefer to let my hair air dry, and blow dry it usually when it’s cold. Then I have a few products that take a little to go a long way. My hair is very fine, has some tendency to wave/curl, but needs encouragement to do that instead of get frizzy and floaty, so these products all target that in one way or another.

  1. Brilliantine: I use this on damp or dry hair to control frizz and help define the wave/curl I have. It’s like adding a little bit of oiliness back in, but in a good way.

  2. Argan Oil (Cristophe Professional specifically): I use 2-3 pumps of this oil, like above, to control frizz and define wave/curl, but when I don’t want to use the brilliantine.

    • Unfortunately, I think this product is discontinued because I’ve only been able to find it on eBay, so will need to find a replacement oil sooner or later.

  3. Thickening Volume Crème Contour: I started using this product in college when my hair was in pixie cut. It adds separation without being heavy, even for my fine hair.

  4. Hair Shake Liquid-to-Powder Texturizing Finisher: My favorite spray! It gives texture without feeling too dry and can be brushed out. Love this for adding texture on days my hair is limp.

What’s your favorite hair product?
