Review: Summer Dresses from Target

I recently bought two dresses at Target. One I wore twice in the first week, and the other I returned. Read on for my full thoughts on each piece!

Short Ruffle Sleeve A-Line Dress

I was attracted to this dress because it reminds me of my late grandmother. She wore a lot of blue and white florals, and a lot of loose, floaty dresses. I like the soft blue and love the floral.

The fit was a bit loose on me, but not indecent. Definitely comfortable, plus it has pockets!. It looked awkward belted, but maybe I didn’t have the right belt for it.

The fabric felt pretty heavy and a little stiff. It’s 55% linen, 45% rayon. I think it would be breathable in hot weather, because of the fit and the linen component, but it might feel like too much on a really hot day.

There were two deciding factors against keeping it. Most importantly, the seams across the front (where the floaty part is sewn to the neckline) were itchy. It’s possible this would improve after washing, but that’s not guaranteed. Secondly, I have other dresses in this silhouette, and other blue floral dresses.

It’s a near miss for me, but it is a nice version of this style and comes in other colors. Maybe the dress I tried on had worse seams or just needed to be washed.

Flutter Short Sleeve A-Line Dress

I’ve definitely been on a purple kick recently and I love orange/red, so I was immediately drawn to this floral.

The fit of the dress on its own is a bit weird. Despite being a light fabric, it just hangs almost heavily on the shoulder. The waist is low, but not quite a drop waist, leading down to a tiered skirt. It doesn’t do anything for me.

Adding a belt to it is an absolute game-changer. It makes it more flattering to my shape. Blousing the dress a little also relieves some of the weight from the shoulders, which makes it more comfortable.

The fabric (100% rayon) is very soft and has nice drape and movement. Because the fabric is pretty thin, it layers well with sweaters, blouses, and jackets. The print has a mix of colors to coordinate with.

This dress is a winner for me! I’ve already worn it twice, which is a good sign. It also comes in a few other prints.

Next week there will be a post for how to blouse dresses with a belt!
