Summer 2022 Intro

It’s summer! I can’t believe it and I’m so excited. I’ve been sorting through my closet and putting together all of my hot weather favorites, and maybe a not small shopping list of pieces to invest in for this season (and summers beyond).

Also, I have a blog update for the summer. My current plan is to maintain my Monday through Friday posting schedule. However, I might miss some posts because I am focusing most of my summer energy on enjoying time with my family. Thanks for understanding!

If you have any preferences, ideas, or requests, comment below!

Trends

Linen

The best summer fabric. It’ll keep you comfortable and cool. Embrace the wrinkles!

Yellow, Lavender and Green

If you insist! Do I love these colors because they’re everywhere, or am I enjoying that these colors I love or everywhere? I’m not sure. Either way, I am enjoying browsing the offering in these fun colors.

Polka Dots

I have seen a lot of polka dots lately, and I love that! It’s so fun to mix different polka dots. Another post about polka dots here, and wearing them here.

Platforms and Flatforms

We want to be taller, but not always wearing heels! These styles used to be my go-to in high school and college. The taller, the better! I could be into a good flatform sandal.

Coastal Grandmother

Light neutrals, tonal outfits, linen and natural fabrics, loose and flowy pieces, layering. (Which is not not what I’ve been wearing a lot of this spring?) Google to find more.

Regencycore

Maybe a full dress, but really picking out details and adding them to modern clothing. Think super puffed shoulders and sleeves, corsets (over or as tops), empire waistlines, bows, pearls. Thanks, Bridgerton!

The Usual Summer Suspects

Crop tops, smocking, sundresses, and florals. I’ve seen those on trend lists and in retailers alike. None of them are remotely new concepts, but they’re staples for a reason!

Other

Vests as tops can be cute, but are difficult to wear for most people, I would think. Mini skirts, especially extremely low-rise and super short (like the Prada one discussed here), are also very trendy. Mini skirts can be great but I think the combination of ultra low and short is not one that would translate well to everyday life.

Shopping List

Last year, I wrote “sandals. That’s it, that’s the list.” And truly, I was in dire need of sandals! My old sandals were falling apart on my feet! That said, I’ve bought five sandals recently so I am in much better shape.

  • Summer dresses: I love a dress for summer. I found a really lovely linen wrap dress that comes in a beautiful green, and a few lovely printed options.

  • Camisoles: Another style that I look at/for constantly because it’s one of my go-to shapes. Yellow and lavender would be nice!

  • Flowy linen or cotton tees: I want shoulder coverage and breathable materials, in bright and neutral colors (or a print, who am I kidding!).

  • Chambray shirt: Specifically, I’m looking for a soft fabric in a lighter wash, loose fit. I had an amazing one 10 years ago, but donated it after I got a really soft tencel version. That one fell apart several years ago, so still looking to replace!

  • Sandals: I am always on the lookout for ankle strap sandals in colors that appeal to me. I’d also like to get a silver sandal, and I’ve found a sporty one that would be fun for being practical and cute at the same time.

  • White sneakers: Specifically, a lighter pair (ie non-leather) for summer. I have a pair in mind! And maybe some floral ones too…

  • One piece swimsuit: I have a nice collection of bikinis, but sometimes I don’t want to put sunscreen on my entire torso. I’m looking for a great print or a bold color.

  • Sun hats: I burn like a lobster, and really want to have hats that are fun to wear and will provide sun protection.

Check back Friday for my finds!
