Review: Alani Cashmere Mockneck Sweater from Pilcro

This week’s review is for my favorite sweater, the Alani Cashmere Mockneck sweater from Pilcro, available at Anthropologie.

I purchased size XS (light grey, bright red, honey, coral, lime, hot pink, deep plum - see each below in this order!). My usual top size 0/XS, and I have a long but petite torso. I’ve been satisfied with the size I tried, so I don’t know how the other sizes compare. From my experience and other reviews, it runs true to size to a bit large.

Since the sweater is on the looser side, it’s possible to size down in if you want the sweater to be more fitted, or size up if you want it to definitely be slouchy. Some colors are available in petite and plus as well.

This pullover sweater has a mock neck, and is 100% cashmere. The fit is boxy with the hem cut very wide. It is not quite cropped but on the shorter side. The length options are listed as standard (20.5"L), petite (19"L), and plus (23.5"L). The shoulders are relaxed so even though the sleeves are cut straight, there’s more of a dolman fit. This makes the sweater somewhat difficult to layer under more fitted jackets and coats.

Because the bottom is so wide, tucking in the entire sweater is awkward. However, a partial tuck of some kind works great because the cashmere has a beautiful drape to it. The cashmere does pill, but I hardly notice and it doesn’t bother me. It’s possible they’d brush out; I haven’t tried.

In the photos below is the 1: front view, 2: side view, 3: the wide cut, and 4: indicating where the sleeve/side are versus my underarm.

This sweater is my favorite and has been worth it to me. They are soft, warm without being heavy, and style really well with pants, skirts, and even over dresses. They dress up and down, and work with scarves and necklaces.

However, I acknowledge that it is an expensive sweater. I was lucky to get most of mine on sale. In fact, I only paid full price for the newest two, because I knew I would wear those colors and was confident in the style.

These sweaters are usually excluded from sales and discounts, but sometimes they aren’t, and once Anthropologie offered an app-only deal on them ($98 instead of $148 - you can bet I jumped on that!).

Rating: 10/10

Perfect for what they are and how I wear them. Would buy more colors.
