Target Style with Alysha (of Liv & AJ!)

Today’s post is in collaboration with my friend Alysha, who is the owner and creative mind behind Liv & AJ as well as operating her own content creation business! After I posted my favorites from the collection, Alysha asked if I would be interested in doing a style collaboration post. I responded with incredible enthusiasm, and now here we are!

We ordered six pieces from Target’s fall designer collection (post with my picks here, including links, if there’s anything still available!), tried them on and styled them. Read on to see how we liked them and what we kept!

Polka Dot Cardigan & Skirt

  • The knit is very soft and surprisingly weighty. It has a nice stretch without feeling too tight. Definitely suitable for crisp fall days and winter layering.

  • Worn together, it’s a lot of polka dots, but I think it’s fun! It’s also just so comfortable. I love how it looks with our different sneakers

  • The cardigan has snap closures, so it lags smoothly. However, the top snap on my cardigan is already coming loose! A quick fix, but still worth noting.

  • I styled it with more polka dots, and it’s really cute! Alysha styled it with easy denim, and it really punches up that outfit (especially with the sneaks!). It could also be worn open with both outfits, or popped over a dress!

  • The skirt fits more snugly on the hips and then flares out a bit. I was expecting it to be more like a pencil skirt, but the shape is nice and the knit has a surprisingly flattering drape! It will definitely be nice with tights and boots in the winter.

  • Alysha kept it more sleek with black booties and a black top, and I punched it up with a bright sweater and polka dot sneaks (that have orange on the heel, hence my sweater choice).

  • Verdict: we both kept the cardigan and the skirt! I almost didn’t keep the skirt because the fit at the waist wasn’t perfect, but folding over the waistband solved the problem!

Paisley Slip Skirt

  • This skirt has a fold-over elastic waist (comfortable and flattering), and a side slit (so it looks goood). I was expecting it to be more of a floaty, silky or satiny material, and it is not! It has more weight, seems less likely to snag, and will be warmer in the cooler months. The fabric is polyester.

  • It looked great styled with heels or boots, and has a variety of warm neutrals to coordinate with. Plus it looks great with basic black!

  • Verdict: we both kept the skirt!! We had high expectations for this skirt, and they were surpassed! It looks amazing, and feels the same. I was so surprised that it was even better than I thought it would be, and I know we’ll both be wearing it a lot this season.

Marble Print Turtleneck & Skirt

  • The print is a LOT, which I love, but it is a lot. It’s fun to wear the coordinated pieces together, which I’d probably style simply as we did in the photos. Or maybe add a cool jacket. The print has black, white, green, blue, and coral.

  • The turtleneck is comfortable, but definitely very fitted. I expected the turtleneck to be ribbed, but it’s more like a thick gauzy material. The fabric doesn’t have much stretch, so, for instance, the sleeves aren’t easy to pull up. Not a deal-breaker, but something to know.

  • The skirt is also very fitted, but feels more comfortable because of the cut. It’s a tiny bit long on both of us because we aren’t tall, but I think it’s a length that is flattering on many people. Having it long makes it more likely to work for tall people, and could easily be shortened if need be!

  • Alysha styled the skirt with a basic white top, and I picked basic black! Both looks are cute and a bit more casual, but still very put together.

  • Verdict: I kept the turtleneck and the skirt, Alysha returned the turtleneck and kept the skirt!

Floral Turtleneck

  • Not going to beat around the bush, this was the surprise winner. The fit is so great and flattering, and the print!! The color selection is fantastic and it will be so fun to play around with different pops of color. It will look great with blue denim, bright lipstick, with a jacket, the possibilities are almost endless!

  • This turtleneck looks SO GOOD with black pants (which you may have already seen in Monday’s OOTW post!). We both felt amazing in this look.

  • We switched out the pants (and swapped bags) for leather skirts, and it still looks fantastic!

  • Verdict: we both kept this turtleneck! I have already worn it!

Can you tell we had a lot of fun with this? We had a lot of fun with this! We’re already planning on another style session, but haven’t decided on the theme yet. We’d love to hear your ideas and requests!

Thank you, Alysha, for having this idea, for being so fun to work with, and for being an incredible friend!
