Seasonal Summary: Fall 2021

It’s been quite a season! We enjoyed a lot of warm weather, and then it quickly became very brisk. I wouldn’t mind more autumn weather, but it could have been worse and I enjoyed the whole season.

I definitely tend to stick to sweaters and pants, adding a scarf or jacket when necessary, because it’s an easy and flattering formula that’s cozy and comfortable (my favorite combination of qualities, if you read any of this season’s OOTW posts) and can be dressed up. However! I tried to make an effort to wear dresses and skirts more because I do enjoy them, and I need to wear more of my clothes. I was fairly successful, and I hope I can continue that into this winter. We’ll see how I do!

What I Wore the Most

Brights

I wore a lot of neon yellow, and got considerable wear out of my new pink and purple sweaters. What can I say, I love bright colors!

My new mint sweater has been a great success already. It’s from Target and cost $30, and I’ve already worn it 7 times. That makes its current cost per wear $4.29. Not bad at all, especially since I’m going to continue to wear it a lot through spring! I’d been on the hunt for a sweater in this color because I thought it had a lot of possibility in my closet, and it’s gratifying to see so soon that I was right. That’s the benefit of knowing your closet and having a shopping plan!

Neutrals

I’ve really gotten into neutral colors, and especially with my new ivory puffer, they’ve made many appearances in my daily outfits.

If you remember past fall and winter shopping lists, I’d been looking for a light/neutral puffer. I had no luck finding one I liked and wasn’t sure if I needed one, so I took it off the list. Then, of course, I found one! And it has been perfect. Plus I got it on sale - super win! It was marked down and then had an extra 20% off, so I paid $81.60.

Shopping List

  1. Skirt: I have a lot of great skirts, but lately I’ve been on the lookout for a midi to maxi skirt in velvet, in paisley, or a tile print. I had a great skirt when I was a tween that was a dark brown velvet paisley, and basically I’m trying to find the adult version of that.

  2. Sweater: Do I really need more sweaters? Probably not. But! If I get another sweater, I know it has to be either something bold and interesting, like a design/print or maybe with pom pops, or the right green.

  3. Coat: As discussed in my coat collection post, I “need” one more coat. I have my eye out for something velvet or fluffy in a bright, or a camel coat.

  4. Shoes: I need a pair of black ankle booties that are basically flat and can be casual or dressy. I’d also like to get a pair of hiking boots because I like to take a lot of nature walks, and want to have a dedicated pair of shoes that are comfortable and can get dirty.

  5. Hats: I’ve really gotten into wearing hats to keep my head warm, so having a few more cozy options would be handy. Berets in green, lemon or orange would be cute, or maybe some kind of knit in a fun color. I have black and cream covered!

*

I know it’s not technically winter for another few weeks, but wow it feels like it already! I have a feeling my shopping list for this winter will be similar to the above, but I’ll reiterate it soon anyway. Happy Thanksgiving, and I’ll be back Friday with the November roundup!
