Your Wardrobe Therapy

Reflection

The first entry to this blog posted on January 17th, so just about six months ago. Not only was it a completely different season, it was a completely different world.

At the time, I planned on having a soft launch for my wardrobe therapy business in the spring, with a full opening in the fall. Now, between physical distancing and childcare uncertainties, I’m not sure when that will be feasible. I’m hopeful that I’ll have a better idea in the next few months.

In the meantime, it has been fun to write posts for this blog. I enjoy documenting my outfits. It’s fun to think of theme ideas for style challenges, and to have a reason to scour the e-tail market.

This blog is like an extended resumé. Here is how I dress, how I style my wardrobe, how I shop and store and plan, with some tips and tricks thrown in. The goal for my business is not for clients to do these things the way I do, but to figure out the best way for them to do them easily so they feel great more often than not.

Here are some numbers from the last six months:

I shared 171 daily outfits - that’s a lot!

It’s fun for me to be able to look back on these pictures, and my notes about the looks, for information and inspiration.

I don’t pose many different ways, but I feel slightly more comfortable than I did in January. In the very beginning, I used a filter, but I think I stopped that after a few weeks. It’s too much work. I try for better lighting, and usually only take one picture per look.

There were 7 style posts, with various themes and occasions...

I love doing style posts. It’s basically the exercise I do when I buy something as I try to determine whether it’ll stay or not. I keep a list of future post ideas that I flesh out when I’m feeling inspired, and there are some fun ones that I’m excited about.

These are 10 of my favorite outfits, in no particular order…

The results are in: I love trench coats and polka dots. These are all looks where I put them on and thought, “wow, I love this, and I feel great.” That’s the goal for every outfit, and I’m lucky to feel it frequently, but these were the outfits that I vividly remember. I had to limit myself to ten or who knows how many there would be. (Answer: I feature my favorites on the home page in the big collage, so however many that is.)

There have been 72 total posts, including this one.

What comes next? Short answer: clothes. Longer answer…

  • Continue the packing tips feature.

    • I thought it might make sense to feature once or twice a season. That way the posts would be for trips of different weather and duration, with maybe some other themes thrown in.

    • The next installment, tips and ideas for a weekend away, is scheduled for next week.

  • Capsule, formula, and general styling examples:

    • Capsule wardrobes have specific parameters, usually limited by number of pieces. I thought it would be fun to make capsules from my closet (since when it comes to my collection, the limit does not exist). This would be a way of showing how to mix basics and statement pieces, and the use of color in your wardrobe.

    • Formulas are more about looking for the same silhouettes combinations with different pieces to figure out your go-to styling.

    • I also just love styling individual pieces, like the statement skirt, so I thought I’d do that more with other statement pieces, but also basics. Those are the real workhorses that you see repeated frequently, but they don’t pop out as much.

And some questions I ask myself, and now you.

  • Should I share more tips?

    • What kinds? What would be most helpful?

  • Should I link to any items I wear that are still available, or similar items?

    • If I’ve recently picked something up, should I link it?

    • If it’s not available, or if there are alternatives, should I share them?

Thanks for following along with me. If you have any favorites, insights, suggestions, or questions, I would love to hear!

Cheers to the next six months!
