Winter 20/21 Shopping List

At the end of each season, it’s handy to make a note on what you need when it’s that season again because it’s likely you’ll forget in 9 months. A mental note is fine, though I recommend physical or digital, like this!

Next winter, I want to make my layers game stronger, and add even more sweaters, but be strategic about it.

Berets and Cloches

  • I wear my black beret frequently in the cold, so more colors might be fun.

  • I wore a cloche for New Year’s Eve which ended up being very warm.

  • I found some berets at Nordstrom, and I think I’ll browse Etsy for options as well.

Under layer for sweaters/tops

  • I definitely would like to be warm without getting my tops as dirty.

  • I’ve seen ads for Numi layers, and as a sweaty person, I am intrigued!

Cashmere Sweaters

  • Good as a slim, warm, breathable top.

  • Neutrals (especially a replacement for my RL cream sweater, which is wearing thin), black, possibly an olive, a sunshine yellow, or even an orange or red. I need to weed through my winter bottom options and then decide what colors will work the best.

  • J. Crew and Everlane sweaters are at the top of my list to check out.

Light/Neutral Puffer

  • I have been wearing my long black puffer for over a decade, so adding another color in a similar style wouldn’t be amiss.

  • I’m primarily thinking an off-white (like this or this from Everlane) or a light grey, but maybe a silver or something bright.

  • I’ve also been meaning to pick up a puffer vest.

Better Tights

  • It’s been ages since I refreshed my tights collection, and my current options are not in great shape or that comfortable, so I don’t reach for them as much as I used to.

  • I especially black, would like nude/sheer (for warmth in chilly weather), possibly some brights.

  • I am very intrigued by Heist tights or Sheertex (for neutrals) and Snag (for colors).

Wool Socks

  • I just don’t have enough in my sock drawer!

  • Especially need short socks (for low-ankle booties), for working out, and over-the-knee for with boots and skirts.

  • SmartWool is my go-to for wool socks, though I’m also looking at Sock Dreams (for non-wool as well).

Winter Boots

  • These have been on my to-get list for a while, but I haven’t seen any that really sparked significant interest, and I want to love and be able to wear them for many years.

  • They must be attractive, versatile, good for snow and rain, mid-calf to knee high.

  • Boots from Sorel usually catch my eye the most.

Black Ankle Boots

  • I don’t have a basic black ankle bootie, and this is a significant problem for me.

  • I’m looking for at least a moderately pointy toe, high ankle, in a leather or suede style.

  • So far, I like these.

I will be revisiting this list in October/November as I prepare for the winter, and we’ll see what I get and how it goes.
