Seasonal Summary: Winter 19/20

I know, I know: it’s not the end of winter for at least three more weeks! But as the last pre-roundup post for February, and the end of Winter as far as my calendar is concerned (December - February), it’s time for a Seasonal Summary!

Because I started documenting my outfits halfway through the season, this is not a full picture from this winter. It was an especially mild winter for Delaware as well, so my cold weather style strategies weren’t as tested as they have been in previous years. Still, gotta start somewhere and that somewhere is here!

What Worked

  • Formulas:

    • My most commonly worn outfit formula of the last two months (since I started documenting) was a sweater with pants.

    • The second most represented was a blouse with a sweater or jacket, and pants.

    • Overall, I wanted to be cute, but also comfortable and warm. Sweaters, as a top or topper, fulfill those requirements!

  • Scarves:

    • I added a scarf to almost half of my outfits.

    • Scarves are a significant part of my winter style arsenal.

    • They are practical in that they add warmth, and easily jazz up an otherwise basic outfit.

    • I like having simple scarf options as an accent/cozy detail, and bright/printed scarves as the focal point of an outfit.

What Didn’t

  • Closet:

    • I had too many clothes out! It’s distracting and overwhelming.

    • I need to pare down in general, but especially not have so much out that I’m truly not going to wear when it’s so cold.

  • Skirts and dresses:

    • There’s definitely winter possibility in those pieces, and I wore them sometimes (I averaged once a week over the weeks I documented), but not often.

    • I need some different layers that work better under and over them to make them really viable options.

Goals for Next Winter

  • Wear more jackets: I have a lot, and should do more looks with them!

  • Wear more skirts and dresses: they’re not what I usually reach for when it’s wet and cold, but should be more represented when it’s just cold.

  • Get back into wearing tights!

  • Have my closet more streamlined, and limit what’s in each drawer so it’s easy to find what I need. (Isn’t this always the goal?)

Tune in to next Wednesday’s post for my Winter 20/21 shopping plan!
