Outfits of the Week: March 9-15

Monday March 9

  • Terrazzo blouse - Target

  • Jeans - American Eagle

  • Trench - Marine Layer

  • Flats - Rothy’s

  • Clutch - vintage

  • Sweater - alpaca international

  • Sweatpants - Target

The three stages of this outfit: out and about, hanging at home, ready for bed. This blouse is unusual for me in that it doesn’t have any black and wouldn’t really work with it, but I love it with other neutrals so it’s a fun style challenge. I love the dark jeans with it to highlight the dark blue in the blouse, and the trench tones with the lighter colors. I went back and forth a lot about what shoes to wear, and went with these flats because I liked the lightness and wanted something comfortable. Ideally, I think I’d do white sneaks with it (more about that in this post from last week). I cuffed the jeans because they’re a little longer and a little looser, so I wanted to give them a little shape and show a little ankle. My trusty alpaca sweater transitioned the look to comfy time, and of course I have coordinating sweatpants, are you surprised?

Tuesday March 10

  • White turtleneck - Amazon

  • Wide pants - J. Crew

  • Slicker - J. Crew

  • White booties - Target

Frequently, when pieces enter my closet, I get a vision of an outfit. Sometimes it comes back to me and I say, “okay, today is the day for that outfit.” This slicker with these pants is one of those visions. I really like pairing various shades of seafoam and sage with the floral. Add some yellow, and I’m so on board it hurts. I balanced the look with white for brightness and a simple palette. I like a contrasting belt with these pants usually, but knotted the self belt today for simplicity. (Yes, these pants are the same print as the dress I layered with a sweater.)

Wednesday March 11

  • Red sweater - American Eagle

  • Polka dot pants - Anthropologie

  • Wrap belt - ada belt

  • Red sandals - J. Crew

  • Scarf - gift

Inspired by the outfit I wore a year ago, this is also a variation on a previous outfit that I enjoyed very much. I love mixing polka dots together, and with red. I generally start breaking out my sandals when it’s clear I won’t get frostbite. I added the belt to balance the proportions of the oversized sweater, wide pants and fluffy scarf with a little waist definition. I frequently wear this particular purse when I wear polka dots because... do I even have to say?

Thursday March 12

  • Navy floral cami - J. Crew

  • Blue jeans - Madewell

  • Sweater blazer - Moth

  • Green trench - ASOS

  • Flax flats - Rothy’s

My son asked me to coordinate with him, which I’ll never say no to, so this is what I came up with. He was wearing blue pants, white sneaks, and a white shirt with blue, green and yellow on it. As the weather gets warmer, I’m happy to transition to layering under trench coats instead of wearing puffer coats.

Friday March 13

  • Floral peplum blouse - Target

  • Black pants - J. Crew

  • Wrap belt - ada belt

  • Trench - Aryn K

  • D’orsay flats - Via Spiga

I wanted some brightness in my day, so I started with this floral top that has lovely spots of yellow. I like it belted over high waisted pants to maintain the silhouette, and I love this pinky neutral trench with it. These flats were my wedding shoes, so it brings me great joy when I wear them.

Saturday March 14

  • Pink sweater - American Eagle

  • Black leggings - Target

  • Floral sneaks - All Black

We had a home day, so I reverted to a cozy and bright outfit. I like being comfortable but still feeling put together. I have a feeling I’ll write a post about that in the next few weeks.

Sunday March 15

  • Yellow turtleneck - Banana Republic

  • Grey cords - J. Crew

  • Moto jacket - Levi’s

  • Flats - Rothy’s

  • Scarf - Anthro

It was another day where I wanted some sartorial brightness to help with morale, so I paired this sweater with grey neutrals this time, and added one of my favorite scarves. I love the vertical stripe play between the ribbed sweater and corduroy pants. The scarf doesn’t match the yellow, but tones with it, especially because it features teal which makes that yellow look cooler.
