Friday Finds: Madewell

Madewell is one of J. Crew’s properties, and is fresh and fun without being too too trendy. They are known for their great denim (which comes in many styles, lengths, and fits) and stylish bags, but their clothes are cute too. I find that they generally run a little big, especially since their tops are usually oversized.

Their membership program is called Madewell Insider, which allows you to get free shipping and returns. (Insider also offers free personalization on some items; I have only used this to get my initials on my wallet, which I love for its function and style.)

They currently have a sale code going on, as well as some special markdowns (like on select denim styles, which is not common). And I have to say, I am sorely tempted by a lot of these pieces.

Denim

  1. 11" High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Pure White: Raw-Hem Edition: Gotta love the versatility of a skinny white jean. I like the raw hem and the ultra high rise.

  2. The Perfect Vintage Jean in Tile White: Raw-Hem Edition: Similar to above with a more tapered leg. Probably my top choice to try right now.

  3. Classic Straight Jeans in Tile White: Still super high rise, with a straight cut.

  4. High-Rise Denim Shorts in Tile White: Can’t beat white jean shorts for summer!

  5. 10" High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Danny Wash: TENCEL™ Denim Edition / Curvy: These are the blue jeans that I wear all the time, and I love them. They wash really well, are very stretchy and comfortable, and I love them (yes, I’m saying it twice). I have the original, but am tempted by the curvy cut.

  6. Skinny Flare Jeans in Bluffwood Wash: Western-Yoke Edition: I like the details of this style.

  7. 10" High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Carbondale Wash / Curvy: These are my favorite black jeans.

  8. Roadtripper Jean Shorts in Bennett Black: The Roadtripper is Madewell’s stretchiest jean, so I’m sure the short version is very comfortable as well. They’re out in some sizes, but it seems likely they’ll try to restock at some point, so could be worth keeping an eye on.

Tops

  1. Central Drapey Shirt: This is a classic, very soft, very over-sized shirt. I have it in white, and it is light in warm weather, easy to tie and not too much fabric to tuck in. I am (obviously) especially attracted to the yellow (or Tungsten Glow), but they have this shirt in many colors and cycle through different options through the seasons.

  2. Denim Courier Shirt in Lunar Wash: The Courier is a similar cut to the Central, with front pockets and in denim. A washed black top is casual and a cute companion to blue wash denim.

  3. Denim Chronicle Shirt: I usually like lighter chambray shirts, but this rich blue is lovely. The pre-cuffed sleeves are cute, as is the subtle dot. I think this would be especially stylish paired with something that isn’t denim, like a printed skirt with some blue in it, or white denim.

  4. Linen-Blend Hilltop Shirt: You really can’t go wrong with a boxy white shirt for spring and summer. This also comes in Wisteria Dove, which looks like a soft pinky-purple, which is a popular color story currently.

  5. Plaza Button-Front Shirt in Dutch Dandelions: Collarless and definitely cute, I love the floral pattern and color combination of this shirt! The background is Wisteria Dove, and the print includes black, white, yellow, and orange. It would pop with black shorts and a white jean jacket.

  6. Crossover Peplum Top in Bandana Paisley: This top has a really bold print with nice colors. It would look great with blue, black, or white jeans, and a slightly cropped jean jacket (to accentuate the peplum) would be cute too.

  7. Ruffle Button-Front Tank in Gathered Blooms: I love a simple but vibrant top like this with white, black, or grey, or even a stripe (if you’re feeling extra bold).

Other

  1. Tapered Pants: Yoke Edition: I love a subtle pink pant, and especially one with fun details like this pair.

  2. Linen-Blend Paperbag Pants: Difficult to tell how see-through these are, but that’s what happens with white linen, and it can be worth dealing with if the cut works for you. It’s fun to switch out the self belt, maybe for a scarf.

  3. Wrap Midi Skirt in Dutch Dandelions: Wrap skirts are a classic style, and this one would look great with a white or black top and contrasting jacket. It would also work well with sneakers or sandals.

  4. Linen-Blend Button-Wrap Midi Dress: This is a very simple dress with nice details, like the asymmetrical buttons, the set-in waist, and darts. It’s a great dress for summer and doesn’t need much styling. Sandals, a woven bag, maybe a red lip, and you’re set.

Accessories

  1. The Boardwalk Skinny-Strap Sandal: Simple sandals with high-ankle straps are great for pairing with cropped pants and midi skirts/dresses. The black is my favorite, followed by the Ashen Sand option.

  2. The Boardwalk Skinny-Strap Sandal in Metallic Leather: I have been on the lookout for a silver sandal, and these are a contender.

  3. Madewell x Veja™ Leather V-10 Sneakers in Polka Dot: If you have looked at almost any of my Outfit of the Week posts, you can tell by the name alone how tempted I am by these shoes.

  4. Indio Sunglasses: These fun sunnies are available in a lot of colors. And some on sale!

  5. Ashcroft Sunglasses: Thicker style, more neutral colors.

  6. Madewell x Warm Striped Straw Shoulder Bag: A bright bag like this goes with a lot of colors, adds a fun pop to a neutral outfit, and is big enough to be practical as well.
