Friday Finds: Free People

Free People is a brand that most people know from buying in other stores. I think it used to only be available that way (from wholesale clients), but they now sell directly from their own website and from retail stores (though not many). Because even I’m so used to looking for their pieces in other places, I forget to browse their website. I took a look recently, and it was quite fun!

Free People generally has a bohemian, maximalist kind of look. Even their basics aren’t really basics, but usually have some kind of twist. Some of their stuff is too trendy to the point of being downright ugly and unwearable, but their good stuff is really good. The quality is usually pretty high, which is reflected by their price point, but it can be worth it. Free People is also a fun website to browse for inspiration because their styling is fun.

Tops

  1. Boatneck Brami: Bra/cami! A basic that’s not too basic. I like the idea of this top as a crop for summer, or a layer for under certain blouses or dresses, or even sweaters. It could work, right? I like that it comes in a lot of colors, as FP intimates usually do.

  2. We The Free You Rock Tee: This is another example of a non-basic basic. It’s a simple tee, but with an exaggerated shape and unusual colors. It’s shown tied and rolled a lot, so it seems like it would style well.

  3. Stella Top: I am very into this top in both heat wave and black. I love an open back for summer, and the sleeves look like that add interest without unflattering volume.

  4. Making Me Smile Print Top: I particularly like this in the night combo. It feels very ‘90s (as mentioned in Wednesday’s post), in a good way. Layer with a cute bra or over a slip dress, and listen to Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer.

  5. Run Free Blouse: I don’t really do blue, but there’s something about this one. It looks like it has black in the print, so black pants would really pop with it. It would be cute casually with said black pants, or possibly belted (wrap belt, to incorporate the tie already in the top) over a slip dress or skirt.

Bottoms, Dresses, Jackets

  1. Dusty Trails Shorts: I mentioned in Wednesday’s post that I’m keeping an eye out for printed shorts, and you have to admit these are eye-catching. They might be too much of a muchness, but they are fun.

  2. Normani Bias Skirt: I like the waist on Free People’s take on a slip skirt. It comes in nice colors as well.

  3. Forever Yours Smocked Slip Dress: I like all the fun color ways of this simple dress. I think it would be comfortable for summer, but could layer well with a jacket or under a sweater for spring and fall.

  4. We The Free Star Crossed Jacket: A roundup featuring a cropped boxy jacket? Quelle surprise! I like the frappe color, but I looked at the sorbet to see what the jacket really looked like.

  5. Military Ruffles Blazer: I’ve wanted to get a military-inspired jacket for a few years now, and this is a pretty cool version. I like the texture and the buttons, though I’d like it more if it had epaulettes.

Accessories

  1. Leather Obi Belt: These are the leather wrap belts that I have in multiple colors and wear all the time. I’m looking at the cream and taupe, specifically, as I don’t have a light colored belt. Though it’s possible I’ve tried both of those colors before and not liked them in person. I also really like how the taupe belt is styled, with the camisole over or with a lace layer.

  2. Elisia Mixed Material Hip Belt: I like the different tones and textures of this belt, and this style (long with double loops) is easy to wear. Another option for a light belt.

  3. Flatform Universal Mesh Print Tevas: A sporty sandal is fun for summer. I like the limelight version, though the neutral options are nice too, and quite versatile.

  4. Hendrix Heels: I don’t know how comfortable these would be for summer, though I think they wouldn’t be too bad. I see them more for fall, with edgy outfits.
