Summer Trend: Coastal Grandmother

What is the coastal grandmother trend? According to Jules Buono, the answer is:

“Coastal grandmother aesthetic is based on the clean and classic style of middle-aged, wealthier women living in luxurious oceanfront properties, similar to that of Diane Keaton in the Nancy Meyers movie, Something's Gotta Give, set in the Hamptons.

Coastal grandmothers wear cashmere and linen, they love to garden, take leisurely walks on the beach when it's slightly windy, and sip white wine while reading on their wraparound front porch.”

There’s more to it, with home and lifestyle preferences and such. (I recommend googling for more information!) I’m focused on the sartorial elements. Coastal grandmother is wearing flowy, loose pieces in natural fabrics (especially linen) and a neutral color scheme.

I looked through the last couple years of outfits, and I quickly found 20 outfits that basically fit the description. Neutral looks definitely appeal to me, as do linen and floaty pieces in hot weather. While I won’t be following this description strictly by any means (I hate being told what to do), I will enjoy elements of it, and will definitely consider stocking up on trendy pieces that appeal to me.

What do you think? Will you be a coastal grandmother this summer? Are there any parts of it that appeal to you? I could go for a nice wraparound porch.

Below are 10 of the outfits I mentioned, shown in chronological order.
