Review: High Rise Pleated Shorts from Gap

For this summer, I ordered Gap’s High Rise Pleated Shorts, in Linen Blend and Chambray with Washwell.

In number sizes, I wear anywhere from a 00 to a 2 in bottoms, depending on the brand and the fit. In Gap, I’ve usually purchased a 00 or a 0. Other reviews for these shorts indicated that they ran small, so I went with the 0.

The linen blend shorts did not fit small on me, and the 0 was a little bit big. I thought about exchanging them for a 00 to get a better fit, but I haven’t minded them being slightly loose because I’d rather have a little room for shirts or belts (or, you know, bloating from food and summer!) than they be too tight. The khaki pair fit a bit better than the blood orange pair, for some reason, but are basically identical.

The chambray shorts were a better fit, especially after washing. Both styles are definitely very high rise with the waist hitting above my belly button. I’d recommend trying a couple sizes unless you have the opportunity to try in store.

Style-wise, they all give me a late ‘80s-early ‘90s Studio Ghibli vibe. For me, this is a plus, but it’s not for everyone. And that’s okay! I like the retro style.

The blood orange are probably my least favorite and least likely to wear, out of the three. The orange isn’t perfect for my wardrobe (it’s a tiny bit too cool/pink), and the loose waist bothers me the most with these. Between the color and the fit, they don’t look as good with some pieces that I’d hoped to pair them with.

That being said, I still like them a lot! The color is very fun and I enjoy wearing them when they work out as an outfit.

Waist: 13.5” flat

Rise: 12.5”

Inseam: 5”

The khaki are my favorite of the three, I think because they look good with black, brights, and light neutrals, and they work the best with a black belt. The color is exactly what I’ve been into for the past year. It works really well with my summer pieces.

Unfortunately, it looks like this color is sold out. I need to get my reviews out faster!

So far, I think I’ve worn the chambray pair the least, but they are really comfortable and are the best fit out of the three pairs. It’s fun to have a denim shirt that’s a little longer and softer than my other pair. They’ve also washed well, which is a plus.

9/10

These shorts are good quality, and I have gotten a lot of wear out of them this summer.

Fit issues can likely be resolved by comparing the fit of different sizes.

If you like this style of short, I recommend trying either of these!
