Intro to Fall 2021

I am ready for the next season! Fall is my favorite, and I am always so ready for it to start. Bring on the jackets, the sweaters, everything! Summer feels so limiting because of the heat, and fall weather is the perfect antidote. Plus, pumpkins and Halloween! Anyway, let’s get on with it.

Trends I’ve Noticed

  • Colors:

    • Pastels, especially lavender and sage.

    • Bold, saturated colors like magenta, plum and other purples, mustard.

  • ‘70s- and ‘60s-inspired silhouettes and prints:

    • Mod, psychedelic and geometric prints. I think of these as being flat in color (no shadows or depth).

    • Wide legs, minis and maxis, and so many more silhouettes that scream vintage to me.

  • Corset tops and other lingerie as day wear:

    • Slip dresses have been enjoying a long moment, and now corsets and bustiers are out too.

    • As weathers cool, layer with jackets and sweaters to keep warm and add contrast to your outfit.

  • Printed turtlenecks: especially in a mesh fabric. These feel very ‘90s-’00s to me.

  • Trends I’ve noticed but have elected to ignore:

    • Polo shirts: These remind me too much of middle and high school in a bad way.

    • Sweater vests: These were somehow a thing this summer, and while I don’t wholly dislike them, I am not into the current styling (oversized and on its own or with a tee).

    • Low rise and flare denim: No.

Pieces I purchased for this Fall

  • Sweater dress: Snagged in the anniversary sale after the Club Monaco dress I was enamored of was sold out, and I think I actually like it more! I’m looking forward to styling it with black, grey, cream, and neons, primarily in the form of jackets and scarves.

  • Amazon sweater: I got this in the khaki option, and the color is beautiful. The sweater is very soft and stretchy, though quite long on me. I’ve worn it a few times with the hem tucked under for a bubbled effect, which I think works well.

  • Mint sweater: I had been on the hunt for a sweater in this color, so I was very excited when I found it in store. I can’t wait to wear it!

  • Alani sweater: Do I need any more of this sweater? Now that I’ve ordered two more, maybe not! I ordered the deep plum (a trendy color, and one I’ve felt drawn towards) and hot pink (as an upgrade to a pink sweater that didn’t wash so well). Yes, I know I have a problem!

  • Sweat pants: I like a comfy pair of sweatpants that I can dress up for outings as need be. I got these in the brown (which is more of a brown mustard in person), and they’re pretty good.

  • Halloween black cat hoodie: Ya girl loves cats and Halloween, so this hoodie was irresistible. I also picked it up for my son and my mom, so we can all match!

  • Faux leather pleated bucket bag: I saw this in the light blue in store and said to myself “if I see it in a nice neutral, I’ll get it.” Lo and behold, I found it a few minutes later! I think the color I got is yellow, which looks less yellow and more tan in person. It’s a copy of a designer bag, which I find beautiful but isn’t worth the price to me, so this dupe works for me!

  • Black booties: I believe I included these booties on this and last year’s anniversary sale roundups, and this time I picked them up! They look really nice on, definitely tend to dressy, but I think can be worn with more casual outfits too.

Shopping List

  • Green blouse: Emily Blunt’s character in Jungle Cruise wears a green blouse that is the exact color I’ve been trying to add to my closet (see this post with one attempt). Zara has an option that I am seriously considering.

  • Classic trench: a nice light khaki color, in a more stiff material, at least slightly oversized (all the better to wear sweaters with, my dear!). So a more traditional trench option. They just always look so chic.

  • New Target collection soon, I’m excited! The designers are Rachel Comey, Victor Glemaud, Sandy Liang and Nili Lotan. The lookbook isn’t out yet, but should be within the next week or two. Keep your eyes peeled for a Friday finds post with my top picks from the selection!
