Friday Finds: One Outfit, Two Ways @ J. Crew

Something a little different! I fell in love with this shirt (no surprised) and then found my favorite corduroy pants in new, fun colors. I couldn’t decide which direction to go in, so I chose both!

Option One

In this outfit, each element has a color that corresponds to a color in the shirt’s print. The shirt would look great with just the yellow pants, with the cardigan, and with the coat. They would also be fun in other combinations, with a plain shirt (especially if we add a scarf, like maybe one from this post), or another print. Very colorful, but balanced.

Option Two

In this outfit, the shirt brings all the color, and the pants, sweater, and coat are different neutrals. From the photos, it looks like they’d tone well together, but they’d also be great pieces for other outfits because they’re nice neutrals. I love that this outfit is so neutral, but still feels fun and not boring at all.

The corduroy pants are, as I mentioned above, my favorite, and I have worn my pink and grey pairs often over the last two years. I am tempted by the yellow haze (option one), warm taupe (option two), and pale mocha (not pictured but trust me, it’s pretty!).

A sweater blazer is a cozy layer that can be appropriate for more formal occasions, or thrown on for warmth. It’s fun to play around with different length and collar styles to see which suits you best.

Coats can be quite the investment piece. I have a wool peacoat from J. Crew in bright yellow, and it brings me joy and compliments whenever I wear it. The villa coat (option one) comes in other colors, but I love the slate green because it can be a color and a neutral. The topcoat (option two) has a lot of personality and detail for a neutral coat. It would be easy to wear, and would add interest to any outfit.

I love the idea of showing two outfits that are basically the same, in slightly different versions or different color options. Let me know if what you think, and if there are any other kinds of pieces you’d like to see featured!
