Gift Guide, Part Two

This week, I have gift recommendations for a few different categories that might be on your gift list. As with last week, I don’t have specific links or pictures for each idea, but it’s the thought that counts.

for the expectant or new mother

  • Maternity leggings: A quality pair of leggings that are supportive and comfortable for pregnancy and postpartum (especially post-c-section) are a wonderful gift because it can be difficult to justify expensive maternity clothes, but they make such a difference. Blanqi makes great leggings for pregnancy and postpartum.

  • Something personalized: Like birthstone jewelry for the new baby’s birth month, or a piece with the new arrival’s name or initials. Just be sure of the information before you purchase! Etsy sellers have many options for this, and I have a few linked in the above pictures.

  • Mama necklace: A necklace that recognizes your friend’s maternal role is also sweet.

  • Baby’s first Christmas ornament: One of my best friend’s sent us such an ornament, which was perfect because we completely forgot to get one.

for a couple

  • Dinner and a movie: A movie selection (whether a physical copy or digital purchase), popcorn and snacks, gift card to place that delivers (local pizza place, their favorite Chinese, etc).

    • Seasonal movie suggestions: The Holiday, Love Actually, Home Alone.

    • Other movie suggestions: Knives Out, The Princess Bride, Clue.

  • First/2020 Christmas ornament: 2020 is a year to remember, and for many couples, it’s their first since they started dating, living together, or as newlyweds.

  • Matching mugs: Can anyone have too many mugs? I don’t think so. Matching mugs can be cute or reference their mutual favorite pop culture. Do a search of a catch phrase or check Etsy.

  • Game night: Similar to my first suggestion, gift a new game, snacks, and possibly drinks or dinner. My game suggestions are in the pictures above. (And someone on my list may or may not be receiving one of my suggestions, so if you’ve seen this, please be surprised anyway!)

for the young, or young at heart

  • Nell & Jo bows: These bows are so cute, and there are so many styles and colors. I’m tempted by some of them as an adult. Why not?

  • Melissa & Doug toys: M&D toys are usually wooden, bright, and adorable. They’re hardy and fun, and there’s so much variety in what they offer. Available on amazon and in a lot of local toy stores, too! My son loves their cleaning set, and service station.

  • Tegu: Hear me out. Yes, these magnetic blocks are expensive. But they have an amazing story, are well-made, encourage creativity, and are just fun. One of my fondest memories from last year’s holiday season was my older brother building elaborate magnet structures for my son to inevitably destroy. Even a small set is brilliant and enjoyable.

  • Juno Valentine: Whether it’s the magical shoes or fashion adventure, these books are adorable and inspirational. Eva Chen also has a new book out that I will be ordering for my son, and you can get these three personalized from Books of Wonder!

  • Good Night Good Night Construction Site: This series is interesting, pretty, and soporific. The newest is a Christmas-themed edition.

    • With books especially, I highly recommend ordering from an independent store! They can often ship anywhere, and your dollar goes further to support small shops and their employees.
